Feb 8 AmCham CEO Forum with PM Nicolae Ciucă

For the first edition of the #AmCham #CEO #Forum in 2022, AmCham was pleased to welcome Prime-Minister Nicolae Ciucă and U.S. Embassy Charge D’Affaires David Muniz for a dialogue on the priorities for Romania’s economic recovery.

AmCham President Ionut Simion opened the meeting by sharing the leading measures that AmCham members consider necessary for improving Romania’s investment and doing business climate. These include investments in infrastructure, accelerating the digitalization of public administration, healthcare reform, maintaining a competitive taxation system and improving the collection of budget revenues and reducing the tax burden for the labor market (capping CAS & CASS).

On behalf of the AmCham business community, President Ionuț Simion underscored the importance of an open and constructive public-private dialogue and reassured the PM that AmCham is willing to be a reliable and constructive consultation partner.

Charge D’Affaires David Muniz reiterated the U.S. commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership with Romania, including at the economic level.

Prime Minister Nicoale Ciucă opened his remarks by assuring the participants that the Romanian Government is committed to observing the overarching principles of transparency, stability, and legislative predictability, acknowledging their importance for building investors’ confidence in the Romanian economy.

The Prime Minister invited the business community to partner for building Romania’s prosperity through investments and shared the Government’s response to the current crises Romania faces today such as the health crisis or the energy prices crisis. Alexandru Rafila - Minister of Health, Dan Drăgan - State Secretary Minister of Energy and Alin Chitu - State Secretary Minister of Finance joined the AmCham CEO Forum online and answered questions from the participants during the Q&A session.


Recent Initiatives

Feb 4: PNRR at a glance

AmCham organized a seminar about the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP/PNRR). The event focused on commitments and budget allocations for investments and reforms under the NPRR, aiming to provide members with a better understanding about business opportunities and potential for business growth provided by the Plan. Participants are invited to fill in the post-event feedback form in order to support us to identify potential follow-up initiatives.


Feb 3: AmCham Meeting with Sabin Sărmaș/Digital Economy Committee

The AmCham Digital Economy Committee had a constructive meeting with Mr Sabin Sărmaș, President of the IT&C Committee in the Chamber of Deputies, regarding the legislative agenda supporting the digital transformation. The discussion focused on the legal framework for cloud and interoperability standing out as the two main parliamentary priorities in the short-term, as well as the operationalization of the digital transformation projects financed via PNRR and the cooperation with the private sector.


Feb 1: AmCham Meeting with Representatives of the Cluj-Napoca City Hall/Digital Economy Committee

The AmCham Digital Economy Committee had a meeting with representatives of the Cluj-Napoca City Hall regarding the recently approved Digital Transformation Strategy of Cluj-Napoca. The discussion was an opportunity for members to find out the City Hall’s digitalization priorities and identify potential business growth opportunities, and was organized as a follow-up to AmCham’s previous contribution to the public consultation and initiatives to support the digitalization of local public administration
