Loneliness and lack of resources remain among the most serious challenges faced by many elderly people in Romania, according to national statistics.

• Romania has over 3.8 million senior citizens and its population is ageing rapidly.
• 1.3 million elderly people live alone.
• 1.9 million seniors do not have a partner.

In this context, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation continues its efforts to support vulnerable elderly people and respond to their many needs, whether through material assistance, combating loneliness, or helping them rediscover a sense of purpose by volunteering with children in our intergenerational projects.

In 2026, 8,000 seniors will receive practical, material, or emotional support through our social projects implemented in 32 communities across Romania.

The beginning of the year is the perfect moment for all of us to stand by them. There are two simple and cost-free ways to support vulnerable seniors:

• Redirect 3.5% of your personal income tax!

• Submit Form D177 and redirect 20% of your company’s profit tax!

Support projects that help seniors live with dignity and hope!

Deadline: 25 June 2026 or your company’s deadline for declaring the previous year’s profit tax.

We encourage you to share this initiative with friends, family, or colleagues. Romania is one of the few countries that offers this fiscal mechanism: sponsorships are deductible from income tax and do not represent an additional cost for the company.
