by AmCham Romania May 29, 2025

Learn about AmCham Romania's 2025 business mission to the United States!

Between May 6th and 9th, 2025, 5 companies in Clean Tech / Energy (and related industries) joined AmCham Romania on AmCham's second business delegation to the United States, to discover trade and investment opportunities in Chicago, IL, the economic powerhouse of America's Midwest. Delegates had the opportunity to explore new markets, engage with public and Government stakeholders, find valuable partners and learn about trends shaping America's private sector. The delegation also attended "SelectCHI", a SelectUSA Spinoff Event to explore FDI opportunities in Chicagoland, and went to a White Sox game to immerse themselves in one of America's favourite pastimes.

Day 1, May 6th, 2025

The delegates started their program with a meeting at Romania's Consulate General to Chicago, where they talked to Romania's Consul General to Chicago, the Consul General of the Republic of Moldova to Chicago, and Romanian professionals living in Chicagoland. They had the chance to learn about the Consultate's priorities to support the expansion of Romanian businesses to the region and to engage in conversation on trade and business investment topics. They also met with representatives of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) - Office of Trade and Investment (OTI) to learn about FDI and trade in Illinois, as well as about investment support available for foreign companies. The day's program ended at Evergreen Climate Innovations, where participating companies learned about trends shaping America's Energy sector, as well as about raising investments in the U.S. from institutional and corporate investors. In the evening, delegates explored the legendary Chicago Downtown.

Day 2, May 7th, 2025

The second day of AmCham's delegation started in Bolingbrook, IL, with a site visit to Turano Baking Company, one of the largest bakeries in the United States. A family-owned business with more than 6 decades on the market, Turano Baking Co. is a supplier for one of America's largest and most famous fast-food chains. The delegates had the opportunity to meet with Joe Turano, the President of the company, and learn from him how to weather storms and seize opportunites to grow a business in America. The delegates then joined the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois District Export Council, and the U.S. Commercial Serivce (Chicago Office) for a roundtable discussion on trade between America and South East Europe hosted by Duane Morris. The next stop in the delegates' program was TechNexus Venture Collaborative, where participating companies learned about VC funding in America. In the evening, the delegates met with Romanian businiess owners in Chicagoland at a networking reception organized by the Romanian United Foundation (RUF) and the Chicago Romanian Community Center (ROCO), with the support of the Consulate General of Romania to Chicago.

Day 3, May 8th, 2025

On May 8th and 9th, 2025, AmCham Romania's delegates joined SelectCHI, a Spinoff Event of the SelectUSA Investment Summit to discover FDI opportunities in Chicago and the surrounding counties. The program included regional networking sessions, a panel featuring economic developers from all counties in Chicagoland and and industrial boat tour to explore development sites along the North Branch of the Chicago river.

Day 4, May 9th, 2025

In the morning, delegates traveled to Lincolnwood, IL to visit EJOT ATF, a joined venture between Germany's EJOT and America's ATF - two companies specialzed in the production of mechanical components for the Automotiv sector. There they met Don Surber, ATF Chariman and CEO, and toured their manufacturing facilities.

After the site vist, participating companies traveled back to Downtown Chicago and resumed the SelectCHI program with a networking lunch in the Tribune Tower. They then attended an industry tour to learn about the local Clean Tech / Energy ecosystem and visited Mattiq, mHub and ComEd. The delegation program concluded with one of America's favourite pastimes: a baseball game.

AmCham Romania warmly thanks the local partners of this business mission, in the U.S. and in Romania, without whose support the program would not have been possible. AmCham is grateful to our hosts and facilitators of various engagements in Chicagoland and we thank the companies that joined our program!
