Dear AmCham members, the coming rounds of elections determining fast changes in today's hyper-connected world represent a factor of influence that may affect a company's reputation. As the stability of the business environment concerns us all, our strategic consultants at BDR Associates have compiled a set of recommendations called Safety Reputation Kit, to help you navigate through the election year, in Romania, and prevent possible image damage, as follows:

I. Get informed and clarify positions in your business relations

  • Stay informed on political developments, but remain neutral in such matters. Don’t express publicly political opinions as you may step on mined ground, alienating your clients and partners, who hold different views. Don’t engage in any political discussions with clients and business partners.
  • Clarify Separation: In case you have to clarify the company's stance on a political issue, ensure that the separation between the personal beliefs of executives or employees and the official position of the company is very well done. Make it clear that personal opinions do not represent the company's views.
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Proactively engage with stakeholders such as customers, employees, investors, and the media to ensure they understand the company's values and commitment to remaining apolitical. Transparent communication can help prevent misunderstandings

II. Think of best strategic approach for protecting brand reputation in troubled political times.

  • Keep staying informed, by ongoing monitoring of all public information sources: media, social media, official website, and other relevant tools.
  • Keep a close eye on social media channels for any mentions of the company in political contexts. Respond promptly to any misinformation or negative comments, but do so in a measured and respectful manner. Avoid getting drawn into heated debates.
  • Be ready to take action: utilize online monitoring tools to track mentions of the company's brand during the campaign period. Address any negative publicity or false information promptly to prevent damage to the company's reputation.
  • Protect your brand reputation: Utilize online monitoring tools to track mentions of the company's brand during the campaign period. Address any negative publicity or false information promptly to prevent damage to the company's reputation.
  • Do not neglect the role of internal communication: train employees on appropriate behavior and communication during political campaigns. Encourage them to refrain from discussing politics in the workplace or on social media in a way that could be associated with the company.

III. Prevent Crisis in Political Circumstances & Put at Work Company Vision, and Values.

  • Plan Ahead: Anticipate potential scenarios that could arise during the campaign and develop strategies to address them proactively. By planning ahead, the company can respond more effectively to any challenges that may arise.
  • Have a Crisis Management Plan in place, specifically tailored for dealing with issues arising from political campaigns.
  • This plan should outline roles and responsibilities, escalation procedures, and communication protocols.
  • Draft right messages: focus on the company core values and commitment to serving customers regardless of political affiliation. Highlight the positive impact the company has on its clients and communities can help shift the focus away from political issues.
  • Maintain a focus on the company's mission and values while navigating the complexities of a political campaign.
  • Proactive monitoring, and a strategic approach to managing issues can help protect the company's reputation during this time.
  • Clear communication of the above, using appropriate tools and communication channels will consolidate the brand/company reputation helping you safely navigate through troubled political times.
