More than 4.000 teachers have answered Asociația Techsoup's call to acquire new digital teaching skills during the 2nd semester of the current school year, and they decided to use even the recent spring break to keep on learning.
Thousands of pre-service and in-service primary school teachers, as well as Computer Science and other subject teachers from secondary and high-schools located all over the country, are currently enrolled in at least one of the 3 intensive, free-of-charge, 10-week-long digital readiness and visual programming online courses designed and implemented by Asociația Techsoup.
The 2021 spring edition of Asociația Techsoup's asynchronous, instructor-led courses - Intensive Digital Education / Readiness for primary school (part of the Digital Handbook Program), Intensive Digital Education for Computer Science and ICT teachers and Introduction to Scratch (both part of the Teaching <the> Future Program) - offer an intensive learning environment for teachers to develop their digital & pedagogical skills. The courses also create communities of practice and give teachers the opportunity to grow more confident about using technology-facilitated methods in their daily classroom work.
Asociația Techsoup Romania has been training and working directly with teachers for more than 5 years now, promoting technology-enhanced teaching methods and project-based learning - all with the underlying belief that quality education is first and foremost about pedagogy, not about technology. The communities formed around Techsoup Romania's programs for educators currently include around 16.000 teachers who teach in K12 schools across the country, with a majority of those schools being located in rural and small urban areas.
Last year alone, notwithstanding the challenges brought to the educational system by the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 40.000 K12 students were engaged in the instructional activities which teachers designed as practical applications of their Techsoup course learning experience. In this coming year, Asociația Techsoup will add new courses to its educator programs and will remain committed to accompanying teachers along their professional transformation and preparation for the future of education.
Asociația Techsoup Romania (www.asociatiatechsoup.ro) is a capacity-building organization that provides technology resources, know-how and inspiration to nonprofits, educators and youth, being the only organization in Romania to have received the Digital Skills in Education Award from the European Commission. Techsoup Romania empowers NGOs and educators to achieve their potential and to participate fully in the digital transformation of our society. Asociația Techsoup is a member of the TechSoup Global Network and TechSoup Europe, and serves NGOs in both Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
