Disparities in educational access and achievement between urban and rural areas suggest systemic inequities within the education system in Romania, a system that has been profoundly underfunded for decades.

The school dropout rate in Romania remains one of the highest in the European Union, standing at 16% in 2022, according to data published by Eurostat. The 2022 PISA test results that have recently been communicated indicate and overall poor performance, especially in literacy and applied mathematics.

All in all, our educational system is broken and the small budget slice it receives every year only suggest we are still far from truly fixing it.

Teach for Romania aims to bring together trained professionals that can offer good quality education and vulnerable schools that have little or no access to these resources. For the last 10 years, the organisation has been training teachers and developing literacy and learning difference recovery programs to bridge the gap between school performance in rural and urban areas.
