The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) congratulates President-elect Nicușor Dan, who received the trust of the Romanian people on May 18, 2025 – a clear reaffirmation of the European and transatlantic values that Romania upholds.
The immediate positive reactions of the markets indicate that a first step has been taken toward restoring confidence in Romania’s economy. The real challenge now is to maintain and strengthen that confidence through firm, fast, and responsible decisions. The legitimate expectation of the local and international business community, of rating agencies, and of international institutions is the prompt formation of a stable and credible Government, supported by a solid parliamentary majority, capable of assuming responsibility for substantive reforms and urgent economic measures.
“After a lengthy electoral period that has weakened Romania economically, socially, and institutionally, we are now observing signs of optimism and restored trust, both domestically and internationally. Although a challenging period lies ahead, during which immediate results will be necessary within a short timeframe, Romania also has real opportunities to strategically reposition itself in the region and strengthen its partnership with the United States,” emphasized Vlad Boeriu, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania.
Following the election of the new President, both Mr. Nicușor Dan and the future Government, alongside the Romanian Parliament, must swiftly address the complex equation of fiscal deficits. It is an Olympiad-level challenge, yet we are confident that, through genuine dialogue and consultation between public and private sector professionals, and with a balanced approach that equally respects the objectives of deficit reduction and the needs of the taxpayers who support Romania’s economy, the right and fair solutions can be found.
The business community represented by AmCham Romania – 600 American, international, and Romanian companies active across 32 economic sectors and contributing 20% to Romania’s GDP – reaffirms its support for maintaining the flat tax rate, eliminating unjustified fiscal measures, unlocking European funds, reducing tax evasion, improving the efficiency of public spending, implementing administrative reform, and ensuring meritocracy in the public administration.
“We are aware that a series of significant economic measures is ahead, and it is essential that the business community be included in a genuine and constructive dialogue for the benefit of Romania,” concluded Vlad Boeriu, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania.
