AmCham Romania recently met with the leadership of Parliament's foreign policy committees to explore a common agenda for strengthening the bilateral relationship.

Both discussions, on June 24, with leaders of the Chamber of Deputies commission, Gabor Hajdu and Ioan Mihalcea, and on July 7th, with the leader of the Senate Commission, Titus Corlățean,  reflected a shared assessment that Romania is well-positioned to strengthen its economic relationship with the U.S., and that closer coordination between parliamentary diplomacy and the business community can support this goal.

The leadership of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies foreign policy committees expressed support for AmCham's work and agreed that the economic dimension of the transatlantic relationship holds significant room to grow. Areas identified as especially promising for Romania included technology and Artificial Intelligence, energy, and competitiveness at the local and European levels.

AmCham, for its part, underscored several policy measures that would help unlock this potential, including the introduction of "Patent Box" legislation to support research, development, and innovation, and flagged concerns about the negative impact of turnover-based taxation.

The meetings also addressed the strategic importance of the wider Black Sea region and the value of sustained U.S. engagement here, as well as Romania's broader international objectives: the country's accession to the OECD and its reinclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, both of which AmCham continues to support given their benefits for the business community. Participants likewise noted the importance of institutional support for Romanian companies seeking to expand into the U.S. market.

AmCham's representatives at the meetings included President Vlad Boeriu, VPs Cerasela Baiculescu and Nicoleta Forfotă, Executive Director Letiția Pupăzeanu, and U.S. Relations Director, Manuel Cazac.
