AmCham Romania Participated to Public Consultation on Legislative Framework Governing Electronic Signatures

by AmCham Romania January 27, 2026

AmCham Romania participated in the public consultation organized on January 27th by Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, joined by the Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Darău, and Presidential Advisor Radu Burnete, to address the legislative framework governing electronic signatures.

The consultation aimed to identify practical solutions to ensure the effective implementation and widespread use of electronic signatures in both the public and private sectors, and it provided a timely opportunity to reiterate AmCham members’ need for clear, predictable, and user-friendly rules to support digital transactions and trust services.

There was a shared alignment among policy and industry stakeholders around the table– representatives of Parliamentary Commissions on Digitalization, the Romanian Authority for Digitalization, business organizations, chambers of commerce, industry associations, that legislative harmonization with EU standards is essential for accelerating digitalization and improving the business environment.

The public consultation concluded with an agreement to amend Law no. 214 to ensure full alignment with the upcoming eIDAS 2.0 framework, alongside the issuance of the implementing norms for Law 214 and the adjustment of secondary legislation to ensure that the rules are clear, coherent, and easy to apply in practice.

AmCham Romania will continue to monitor the developments on these topics that have been on the agenda of the Digital Economy Committee and Data Protection & ePrivacy Task Force.

In the meeting, representing AmChamRomania: Cristina Cretu, Deputy Chair of the Data Protection and ePrivacy Task Force, and Ionela Cuciureanu, Senior Advocacy Lead.
