Through World Vision Romania’s Bread for Tomorrow program, children from disadvantaged communities, particularly those in multi-grade classrooms (where several grades are taught simultaneously from grades 0-IV), receive daily warm meals and an additional two hours of school. This system presents unique challenges, as it is often harder for children to stay focused and retain lessons in such an environment. During the extra hours, those enrolled in the Bread for Tomorrow program receive support with their homework and the chance to fill gaps in their learning. For many, the warm meal is the highlight of their day – in rural areas, it is frequently the only meal they receive.
Life for children in rural areas is often difficult and filled with daily struggles. Yet, they find the strength to learn, to keep going, and even to smile – all within the only reality they know: the world of their families and the place where they were born.
