Business Intelligence Romania's TikTok Generation

Romania's TikTok Generation

by World Vision Romania February 17, 2025

A recent survey, Generația TikTok, conducted by World Vision Romania, reveals key insights about TikTok usage among teenagers aged 14 to 19. Over 84% of teenagers with a TikTok account access the platform daily, and more than half of them (53.4%) access it more than four times a day. On average, young users spend around two and a half hours on TikTok, with most creating an account at the age of 13. The survey reveals that 41.6% of teenagers do not verify the information they come across on the platform, and 1 in 10 adolescents self-diagnose psychological issues based on content they see on TikTok.

The percentage of children self-diagnosing medical or psychological conditions on TikTok highlights another issue: the lack of opportunities for these children to express their concerns in other ways and seek accurate diagnoses from psychologists and doctors in real life. Raising awareness about these issues among young people can contribute to their education, help them recognize symptoms, and provide access to information that would otherwise be unavailable. It could also facilitate earlier detection and faster diagnosis.

These findings were published on International Internet Safety Day.

To support World Vision Romania’s efforts, you can redirect 3.5% of your income tax to the foundation at no cost to you. Encourage others to do the same—this small gesture can make a significant difference for thousands of children in rural areas.
