CEE: Schoenherr launches "Start-up Financing"

by Schoenherr May 28, 2020

Schoenherr recently launched "Start-up Financing", a guide providing a general overview of the key legal issues for start-up financing rounds in Central and Eastern Europe. Written by our start-up and venture capital experts, the publication includes the most relevant questions and answers in this respect, for Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia.

"Over the past years, the CEE region has seen an uptick in venture capital funding. With the launch of this comparative analysis on start-up financing in various countries, we aim to support international VC funds interested in investing in multiple jurisdictions in the region, so that they can navigate through the myriad of local legal issues they will inevitably face. The guide is also a useful tool for entrepreneurs who want to find out more about fundraising options for their start-ups." – said Thomas Kulnigg, head of Schoenherr's start-up & venture capital practice.

"Start-up Financing" offers a general overview of financing tools for start-ups, the structuring of corporate governance within a start-up, the structure of a typical venture capital transaction, employee participation programs and vesting terms. It also covers start-up exits.

"With a growing start-up ecosystem, Romania is becoming increasingly appealing to VC investors. In the past few years, we have seen new funds entering the local market and existing ones strengthening their positions. Our Start-Up Financing primer could be an interesting read for local start-ups, as I believe it is important for them to be aware of the legal issues arising within the life cycle of a their business, including what to expect from a venture capital transaction." – said Mădălina Neagu, a partner at Schoenherr și Asociații SCA, specialised in corporate/M&A, start-up & venture capital.

The "Start-up Financing" guide is available on Schoenherr's knowledge portal and can be accessed at the following link: https://knowledge.schoenherr.eu/pg/start-up-financing/
