From the business community's perspective, Romania is at a pivotal moment for its credibility.
Only a few days remain until the deadline to meet the milestones and objectives committed to under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and to secure the final funding tranche, which is essential for fiscal and budgetary sustainability.
At the same time, credit rating agencies continue their assessment of the Romanian economy. Just one year after reaffirming Romania's investment-grade rating, based on a fiscal consolidation path and deficit reduction commitments, the risk of a downgrade has re-emerged.
Meanwhile, Romania's OECD accession process is entering its final stage.
All these processes share a rigorous assessment of Romania's macroeconomic fundamentals, shaped by the country's predictability, credibility, and ability to deliver on reforms.
The business community and the public have already borne the costs of the urgent fiscal consolidation measures, with the legitimate expectation that policymakers will adopt and implement the structural reforms they have committed to. Failure to deliver on these commitments undermines Romania's credibility, with both immediate and long-term consequences.
Romania needs cross-party mobilization to remain on a sustainable economic path by maximizing the use of the non-reimbursable funding available under the NRRP, preserving its sovereign credit rating, and strengthening its competitiveness in attracting investment.
The public interest and Romania's long-term prosperity must guide the agenda across the political, policymaking, and administrative spectrum to ensure the implementation of reforms and the completion of the projects that have been undertaken.
Against the backdrop of prolonged domestic uncertainty and an unclear policy direction, investors are becoming increasingly cautious about launching new projects, while companies are making ever greater efforts to sustain their operations and preserve jobs.
Our business community firmly demands that the timely completion of the PNRR, the continuation of reforms, the correction of twin deficits, and strategic economic development take precedence in the responsible exercise of any political and governmental mandate, in the legitimate interest of the entire society.
