AmCham Meeting with Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare

by AmCham Romania July 11, 2025

Today, AmCham Romania representatives had a first consultation meeting with the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, an opportunity to share members' priorities, concerns, and recommendations on the fiscal and budgetary measures.

We’ve addressed both urgent measures and the need for structural reforms for sustainable, long-term development, such as:

  • Structural deficiencies and challenges in meeting the commitments within Romania’s Budgetary-Structural Plan (2025-2031)
  • Preserving the flat tax
  • Absorbing the NRRP funding
  • Fiscal administration reform and digitalization
  • Reducing bureaucracy
  • Curbing fiscal evasion, best practices from other markets
  • A framework for stimulating investments in the economy
  • Removing distorting taxes - minimum tax on turnover, special tax on construction, additional tax on oil & gas

Minister Nazare shared the main priorities for his mandate, with a strong focus on measures to avoid payment default and suspension of EU Funding.

We appreciated the open, hands-on dialogue with Minister Nazare and look forward to continuing on a similar note, a must in our view, given the impact and importance of the fiscal and budgetary measures considered to reduce the budgetary deficit.

In the meeting, on the AmCham side, at the Ministry of Finance - Ministerul Finanțelor:
