World Vision is preparing humanitarian response plans for Ukraine

by World Vision Romania March 3, 2022

Millions of lives- men, women, children and the elderly- are in danger because of bullets, tanks and missiles piercing Ukraine from all directions during this period. In the first days of war, 660,000 Ukrainians had already left their country, most of them mothers with children. And their number is constantly growing.

All of them all seek refuge in neighboring countries (Poland, Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Hungary), where both state authorities and civil society support them with emergency aid: food, medicine, clothes, transport, transition tents or other types of accommodation, legal advice for obtaining refugee status, as well as psychological counseling.

In a humanitarian crisis in which the safety, physical and emotional health, education and well-being of the 7.5 million children of Ukraine are deeply affected, World Vision Romania wants to protect these children through an intervention plan.

"As the crisis in Ukraine worsens, World Vision is concerned about the risk of such a conflict for the most vulnerable - children. To that end, World Vision is finalizing emergency plans if high-level humanitarian aid becomes necessary," said Eleanor Monbiot OBE, World Vision's regional leader for the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

World Vision is finalizing emergency plans that will be activated if the situation worsens. In Middle East and Eastern Europe, World Vision last year supported 3.2 million people through immediate crisis response programs. If necessary, the organization can use this capacity to respond to the crisis in Ukraine.

"Ukraine's children are suffering in boundless pain. And when the whole world is powerless in the face of this tragedy, our thoughts and prayers turn to the entire challenged population. Hundreds of thousands of refugees are anticipated, hopefully Romania will be able to receive them. The whole world is frightened, the approach of danger astonishes us. But it is time for solidarity, "said Mihaela Nabăr, Executive Director of World Vision Romania.

Their team has seen many desperate situations on the field: children freezing cold, single mothers crying because they don't have transportation money, foreign students who wanted to make a future in Ukraine, but now they don't know how, and grandparents who left a lifetime behind.

You can help World Vision reach as many Ukrainians as possible who are now suffering from cold, hunger and countless fears and uncertainties, if you donate here: https://bit.ly/3hzC7NU.
