“At the beginning of 2023 Zimmer Biomet, the worldwide leader in Orthopaedic industry, has started its direct operations in Romania, a move that was announced at the end of 2022, in November, during the Romanian National Orthopaedic Congress (SOROT), and was celebrated on 16th of May 2023, with a launching event hosted by the US Embassy in Bucharest, and attended by high level officials, including, among others : Ms. Kathleen Kavalec - the U.S. Ambassador in Romania, Prof. Dr. Alexandru Rafila - the Romanian Ministry of Health, and Prof. Dr. Diana Paun - the Healthcare Advisor of the Romanian President.”

According to a statement from Marian Isac, General Manager of Zimmer Biomet Romania:

“More than 80% of the products sold in Romania by the company are represented by artificial joints, mainly hips and knees. In first quarter of year 2023, the number of such joint replacement devices sold by Zimmer Biomet increased by more than 30%, compared to the same quarter of year 2022. This was a consequence of the great post-pandemic increase of such cases, which were mostly stopped or delayed during the pandemic period, being considered non-urgent medical conditions, but rather: chronical ones. Globally this industry is facing an increased demand that may not be fully addressed by all existing players, due to both: limited capacity of manufacturing and shortage of raw materials (mostly Titanium, of which main global supplier is Russia).”

Zimmer Biomet Romania, a recent member of AmCham, was nominated among the top 100 healthcare performers in Romania, by the Capital magazine.
