Mondelēz International celebrates 30 years of presence in Romania

2022 acquisition, a strategic step for the company

In 2022, Mondelēz took an important step by acquiring the former Chipita factory in Clinceni, Ilfov County, doubling the size of its business in Romania. This nearly $2 billion acquisition, part of a global investment, demonstrates Mondelēz's commitment to the local market and its expansion strategy in Central and Southeast Europe.

The product portfolio has been expanded to include, in addition to the iconic chocolate and biscuit brands (Milka, Oreo, belVita, Toblerone, Poiana, Barni, TUC), 7Days croissants, Bake Rolls snacks, and Fineti cream.

Mateja Podgornik, Managing Director of Mondelēz for Romania and Slovenia, said: "We mark 30 years of growth in Romania with confidence. We have, in Clinceni, the largest production facility in the region, with 879 employees, and nationally, Mondelēz employs 1,200 people. This demonstrates our commitment to Romania and we are excited to continue to innovate and grow with Romanian consumers while being aware of our social responsibility in the community."

Significant economic impact

According to a study conducted in 2024 by Deloitte, commissioned by Mondelēz, only in 2023, the company had an impact of RON 5.4 billion on national production and RON 2.5 billion in terms of gross value added in Romania. At the same time, Mondelēz contributed RON 760 million in household income and RON 191 million to the state budget.

Top employer

In 2023, Mondelēz generated over 20,000 jobs (direct, indirect, or induced) in the Romanian economy. As for the average monthly salary in the company, it increased by 21% in 2023 compared to the previous year. Of all employees, about 65% are women.

Promoter of social responsibility

In 2020, Mondelēz launched the educational project "Snack Mindfully. Enjoy the moment.", in partnership with the National Authority for Consumer Protection, school inspectorates, and the 100% Romanesc Association. The program, which promotes healthy consumption habits among young people, has reached more than 30,000 high school students in the four editions already run.
