Deloitte’s cyber security expert Cristian Mocanu is the first Certified Ethical Hacker Master in Romania

by Deloitte Romania October 3, 2019

Deloitte’s cyber security expert Cristian Mocanu is the first Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Master in Romania, as per the credential earned from the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants, also known as EC-Council, the global cyber security technical certification body.

A certified ethical hacker trains to understand and look for weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems and uses the same knowledge and tools as a malicious hacker, but in a lawful and legitimate manner, to assess the security posture of a target system.

This credential includes ethical hacking methodologies, practical training sessions and it is based on real-life scenarios similar to what ethical hackers face in their real jobs. In order to obtain the CEH Master certification, the trainee must pass two separate assessments, a four-hour theoretical exam (CEH) and another six-hour technical performance-based assessment (CEH Practical). Combined, these two exams (CEH and CEH Practical) are able to validate the candidate’s necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform penetration testing engagements in an ethical way.

“Cyber security has become an important topic on the boards’ agendas and is an ever changing environment, this is why a good trainer needs to be a real life practitioner. Private companies and public authorities need to keep up with the digital era transformations and with legislation. We have pieces of national law related to cyber security testing, the European Commission recently passed the Network and Information Security Directive and the European Central Bank published the TIBER-EU framework, recommended by the National Bank of Romania to banks for infrastructure testing, to name only some of the most important pieces of legislation, said Andrei Ionescu, Risk Advisory Partner, Deloitte Romania.

The Threat Intelligence-Based Ethical Red-teaming European Union framework (TIBER-EU) is the first EU-wide guide on how authorities, entities, threat intelligence and red-team providers should work together to test and improve the cyber resilience of entities. The CEH credential is present in the TIBER-EU Procurement Guideline as one of the suitable qualifications for those who are part of the Red and Threat Intelligence teams involved in this type of assessments.

With over ten years of experience in IT, including eight in IT security, Cristian Mocanu is a Cyber Risk Advisory Senior Consultant with Deloitte Romania and a Cyber Security Trainer with Deloitte Academy, the professional training unit of Deloitte Romania. He has extensive experience working with both public and private entities and managing big infrastructure and security projects. He is currently part of Deloitte Romania’s Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking team and Deloitte Global Red-Team, a role in which he handles complex penetration testing and red-teaming engagements in industries such as financial services, education, healthcare, manufacturing and telecommunications. Besides the CEH Master credential, Cristian Mocanu is an EC-Council Certified Instructor (CEI), Licensed Penetration Tester Master (LPT Master), EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).

Deloitte’s Cyber Risk Advisory team in Romania specializes in cyber strategy, security controls, detecting and managing cyber threats, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, source code review, red-team testing (TIBER-EU), incident management processes and technologies. In addition, the team provides internationally recognized trainings through Deloitte Academy. Deloitte is also an official Authorized Training Center (ATC) for EC-Council in Romania.
