Our Data Protection Task Force has the pleasure to invite AmCham members to a discussion on It’s easy to say “no”: what makes a good DPO?,  with special guests Rie Aleksandra Walle, NoTies Consulting, external DPO and Privacy Officer for companies in the US and Canada, and Miloš Novović, BI Norwegian Business School.

This talk addresses the difficulties which data protection professionals face when defining their role within an organization. They need to strike a difficult balance between protecting the interests of the data subjects – and the interests of their own organization. How can a DPO find such balance? Is there enough flexibility in the GDPR to make it easier to find? In which way can a DPO involve the leadership – and how can they help? Join us to find out!

This online meeting is part of our #DataPrivacyHour and is designed as a follow up to our "GDPR Year Four: Upcoming Challenges and Trends" conference which took place in early May this year.

Meet the speakers:

Rie Aleksandra Walle, external DPO and Privacy Officer for companies in the US and Canada

Rie Aleksandra Walle has over 15 years of broad, professional experience in both the public and private sectors, including in the Nordics and Middle East. Walle runs a consulting firm with clients in the US, Canada, Southeast Asia and Europe and is a trusted advisor to Boards, executives and fellow privacy and data protection practitioners. Walle guest lectures at BI Norwegian Business School's Executive course for DPOs and at Kristiania University College, is an experienced presenter and acts as external DPO and Privacy Officer for companies in the US and Canada. She's also an avid GDPRhub volunteer since 2020, summarizing over 60 DPA decisions and court rulings.

Miloš Novović, BI Norwegian Business School

Miloš Novović is an associate professor of law a BI Norwegian Business School, specializing in law and technology. He is responsible for several courses on privacy and data protection, as well as legal tech courses covering issues such as digital contracts, copyright, AI and digital platforms.

Miloš holds a PhD in law from University of Oslo, and an LL.M. in intellectual property law from the George Washington University. He has provided privacy and IT contract-related advice to major Norwegian and international companies over several years, and serves as a chairman of the Norwegian Society for Comparative Law.
