JTI Romania

JTI Romania is a subsidiary of JTI (the international division of Japan Tobacco Inc.), headquartered in Geneva-Switzerland, with about 48.000 employees and operations in more than 130 countries.

JTI was formed in 1999 when Japan Tobacco Inc. acquired the non-US operations of RJ Reynolds. The 2007 acquisition of UK-based Gallaher doubled the size of JTI, making it the 3rd biggest tobacco company. Camel, Winston, Sobranie, Mevius, Benson &Hedges, LD are JTI’s world-renowned brands.

JTI Romania started operating in 1993, as RJR, part of RJ Reynolds, one of the first multinationals to invest locally.

In 2023, JTI Romania celebrates 30 years of activity. It started operating as RJ Reynolds in 1993, being one of the first multinational to invest locally and a founding member of AmCham Romania.

JTI Romania has two entities in Bucharest: Trading and Manufacturing. The Trading has also more than 30 offices across the country. The Manufacturing facility is highly regarded, turning into an excellence center for the whole group.

More than one quarter of local market belongs to JTI. Our dynamic portfolio includes: Sobranie in the Prestige category; Camel, Glamour in Premium; Winston in the Mid; Winchester and LD in the Value.

JTI is actively involved in community life: the company is a partner of the International Theatre Festival in Sibiu (FITS), Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF),

musical tours in small cities across the country, and official sponsor of the “Gigi Caciuleanu Romania Dance Company”. As the most important Japanese investor in Romania, JTI supports the Japanese Garden in Herastrau Park, the Tea House within the National Museum of Art, and the Centre for Romanian-Japanese Studies within the Romanian-American University. “JTI Encounters”, an event launched in 2000, has now been held uninterrupted for 21 years and has become a national cultural brand in contemporary dance. JTI Romania also develops one of the longest fellowship programs for young, promising journalists, in partnership with prestigious European media institutions (since 2000). Since 1998, through “Seniorii JTI” program, more than 40 elderly people receive a daily meal. In recent years, the company also sustains social projects across the country, aiming to support people in distress.
