Ford Otosan Romania

Ford Otosan Romania is a key player in Ford’s European manufacturing network. Ford Otosan Craiova Plant is one of the most complex and innovative sites within the Ford manufacturing ecosystem. The Craiova plant is currently the only facility in Europe that manufactures both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles on the same lines, offering both combustion engines and all-electric versions.

Ford Otosan, the Ford joint venture in which Ford and Koç Holding are majority shareholders, is one of the longest-running and most successful joint ventures in the global auto industry. Ford Otosan (Ford Otomotiv Sanayi A.Ş.) is a publicly traded company (18%), where Ford Motor Company* (41%) and Koç Holding A.Ş. (41%) have equal shares. Since 2004, Ford Otosan has been among the top three exporting companies in Turkey, achieving 14 consecutive years of automotive industry leadership and eight years as Türkiye’s goods export champion.

Ford Otosan operates in four main centers: the Gölcük and Yeniköy Plants in Kocaeli, the Eskişehir Plant in Eskişehir, the Sancaktepe R&D Center and Spare Parts Warehouse in Istanbul, and the Craiova Plant in Romania. The company employs more than 20,000 people and is the most valuable automotive company on Borsa İstanbul.

To support the production of electric vehicles, Ford Otosan has invested in the localization of key EV components, including the establishment of a new battery assembly line at its Craiova plant. The facility, which was inaugurated last October, is part of the comprehensive investment strategy announced in 2022 when Ford Otosan officially acquired the Craiova plant. This investment underscores Ford Otosan’s commitment to strengthening its electrification capabilities and expanding its role in Ford’s global EV ecosystem.

Since 2022, Ford Otosan has made a total investment of €500 million in Craiova to support the diversification of vehicle production at the Craiova plant., This investment also contributed to the technological transformation of the Craiova plant, positioning it as one of Europe’s most advanced and flexible automotive production facilities.

As part of Ford Otosan’s commitment to delivering sustainable and innovative transportation solutions, a new intermodal transport route was launched in February 2025 to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability in logistics operations between Ford Otosan’s Craiova Plant in Romania and Türkiye.

As a significant industrial enterprise, Ford Otosan Craiova employs over 6,400 people and has a vehicle production capacity of 300,000 units and an engine capacity of 350,000 units. The product portfolio now includes electric versions of the Courier and Puma, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

Ford Otosan Romania currently manufactures both combustion and all-electric versions of Transit Courier, Tourneo Courier, and Puma, alongside the world-renowned 1.0 EcoBoost engine. The plant currently operates in three shifts across both vehicle and engine production areas, ensuring efficiency and meeting growing demand for next-generation mobility solutions.
