In 2008, Ford acquired the former Daewoo Motors facility from the Romanian Government. Vehicle production at the plant began in September 2009 with the Ford Transit Connect and continued with Ford B-Max starting 2012. Engine production at the plant includes three and four-cylinder versions of Ford's Eco Boost engine family.

Since 2008 Ford has invested more than EUR 1.7 bln. in transforming Craiova into one of its most modern production facilities around the world.

In October 2017, Ford Craiova started the production for EcoSport SUV becoming the single European supply source for this exciting SUV. The EcoSport SUV will be sold not only across Europe, but to 56 markets on four continents.

In April 2021, the company announced that it will start the production of a new commercial vehicle in 2023, with a full electric variant as of 2024.
