Donalam Romania

Donalam was founded in 2007 by the AFV Beltrame Group - one of Europe's leading producers of steel bars and special steels - with the intention of initiating steel operations in Romania. Established in 1896, the Beltrame Group boasts a rich tradition spanning over 120 years in the steel industry. At the present moment, the Group owns 7 plants located in Italy, France, Switzerland, and Romania, with commercial activities in more than 40 countries.

The first production unit was established in Călărași, following the acquisition of a rolling mill on the platform of the former Siderca steel mill. Today, Donalam Călărași has more than 15 years of activity in the production of hot-rolled steel bars. The steel products manufactured by Donalam have various applications in key sectors of the economy, including the oil and gas industry, automotive industry, large mechanical and hydraulic equipment, as well as machinery and agricultural equipment. With a production capacity of 400,000 tons and a workforce of about 300 employees, Donalam Călărași sells 120,000 steel bars annually. Most of the production is destined for export, positioning Donalam as one of the most important exporters in the county.

In 2022, the Group acquired a new production facility in Târgoviște, the former special steel plant - Combinat de Oțeluri Speciale (COS). In the same year, the group started the rebar production under the Donalam brand, thereby becoming the sole local producer in this segment. This marked a significant shift after a prolonged period during which Romania relied solely on imports to meet its domestic demand for rebar.

Approximately one year after resuming rebar sales, fall 2023, Donalam achieved around 24% of the local rebars market share. Simultaneously, the special steel products, manufactured in both Călărași and Târgoviște, have consolidated the company's position in the European steel market.

Currently, the Târgoviște plant boasts a production capacity of approximately 15,000 tonnes per month. The company's objective is to increase this capacity to over 58,000 tonnes per month, equivalent to around 600,000 tonnes per year.

The company has ongoing investments in modernizing its two production facilities in Călărași and Târgoviște. These strategic investments not only seek to strengthen Donalam's market position but also aim to reestablish Romania as a key player in the European steel production.
