Carrefour Romania

Carrefour introduced the hypermarket concept for the first time in Romania in 2001, setting the foundation for the retail market.

Currently, Carrefour offers its Romanian customers multiple shopping opportunities in its 358 stores across the country, as well as the unique portal www.carrefour.ro, where clients in Bucharest can buy food from the “Supermarket Online” section.

Carrefour supports the communities in which it operates through relevant programs, so in 2017, the retailer launched for the first time in Romania the “Carrefour Vărăști Agricultural Cooperative”, the first of its kind founded with a retailer. The project brings Carrefour customers closer to Romanian agricultural producers with quality products and gives them the opportunity to access a sustainable market.

Starting this March, Carrefour Romania is launching “Together we grow BIO Romania”, the largest national program to support Romanian BIO sector. The program includes 3 sections: long term support to local producers to convert their farm to BIO standards, build a coalition of stakeholders for the development of sustainable organic agriculture, and engage media and influencers to promote the benefits of BIO for Romania (for consumers, farmers, communities and economy).
