For over 137 years, Avon has been transforming, through access to beauty products and supporting the causes that matter, the lives of women across the globe.

The company was founded in 1886 by then 28-year-old David H. McConnell who sold books door-to-door and gave out perfume to entice women to buy his books. He soon realised customers were more interested in the free perfume samples than the books. From a small New York City office, McConnell mixed the company’s first fragrances himself, and recruited a team of women to be sales Representatives. It was a radical business model in 1886, but McConnell believed in the power of community, and was passionate about giving women economic freedom..

The company's chairman and CEO is Kristof Neirynck, who was promoted to the position in 2023. Avon uses both door-to-door sales people (Representatives) and brochures to advertise its products. In some markets Avon products are sold primarily in retail stores.
Avon's product lines include lipsticks, foundations, bath and skin lotions, anti-aging cream, perfumes, as well as jewellery and clothing.
Although the company has always been more directed toward female customers, Avon's line of male products continues to expand, and its children's products have also proved successful.
