Today is the start of registrations for the 7th edition of Hackathon4Health, a project initiated by Johnson&Johnson Romania, implemented in collaboration with UMFCD, through the Centre for Innovation and e-Health and the Foundation for Education and Health (FIES). Hackathon4Health, the most important health hackathon in Romania, will take place between November 8-10, 2024 and will aim to identify and support the most valuable innovative digital projects with real impact in the health field. Three winning teams from among those participating in the hackathon following the selection process will benefit from pre-seed funding in the total amount of USD 30,000 from Johnson & Johnson Romania and mentoring for their project development in the first 6 months after the hackathon from Johnson & Johnson and "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, through the Center for Innovation and e-Health.

"Hackathon4Health is one of the most valuable projects aimed at contributing to the digitization of the health system in Romania through concrete solutions. With each edition, we discover innovative ideas and proposals from young people who represent the future of Romanian medicine. The enthusiasm and joy we see among the participating young teams at the hackathon, as well as their mentors, confirm that we all share a constant preoccupation for digital solutions intended for health and the health system," mentioned Georgiana Coșoveanu, Director Governmental Affairs and Policy at Johnson & Johnson Romania.

A reputable event among enthusiasts of digitization and innovation in the health system, Hackathon4Health 2024 will benefit from the support and involvement of health, academic and business experts, as well as from authorities, medical and hospital service providers, technical experts and representatives of patient associations, medical students and other specializations. The mission of the teams participating in the hackathon will be to develop innovative digital solutions during the 48 hours of the competition, held in the sumptuous Library of the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The themes for the seventh edition are as follows:

  1. Prevention and treatment of patients in oncology, hematology, immunology, ophthalmology, and neurology.
  2. Mental health and quality of life.
  3. Medical devices of the future.

"As a strategic field for humanity, the medicine of the future will no longer be possible without high-performing digital solutions. One of the missions of young people entering the health field is to find rapid and optimal solutions for pressing health issues in humanity through the development or use of digital solutions. Thus, we are pleased to support the digitization of health in Romania through the Hackathon4Health project, encouraging teams of young innovators to register and benefit from mentor support to help bring their innovative projects to fruition. This year, UMFCD hosts the seventh edition of this event, providing a unique space filled with history, likely to be the most inspirational for performance in medicine," stated Prof. Dr. Viorel Jinga, Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest.

For two days, hackathon participants will work in groups, benefiting from the help and coordination of mentors, professionals, and experts in the field. These mentors are experts and professionals from health, academia, entrepreneurship, IT&C, members of patient associations, as well as representatives of authorities. The mentors will assist them in developing their ideas into projects at a level that could potentially be implemented.

On the last day of the competition, the jury will select 3 winning projects from those presented by the teams participating in the Hackathon. Each winning team will receive from Johnson&Johnson Romania a pre-seed funding of USD 10,000 for the development and implementation of the project. Also, in the next 6 months after the end of the Hackathon, the 3 winning teams will benefit from support in the implementation of their project from Johnson&Johnson Romania, as well as from the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, through the Center for Innovation and e-Health.

For the seventh consecutive year, Hackathon4Health 2024 is implemented in partnership with the Embassy of the United States of America in Romania and the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania), as strategic partners of the event.
