Visa and Banca Transilvania to host the WE BUILD Consortium’s 2026 General Assembly in Bucharest
Visa and Banca Transilvania will host the WE BUILD Consortium’s 2026 General Assembly in Bucharest on 3–4 November 2026. The event, entitled “WE BUILD for the Future,” will bring together 450 representatives from more than 200 participating organisations across 28 countries to review progress on 13 use cases covering business, supply chains and payments.
WE BUILD is a Large-Scale Pilot co-funded by the European Union that brings together public authorities, private companies, academic institutions and technology providers. The consortium is advancing and testing practical applications of the EU Digital Identity Wallet and European Business Wallet ahead of their wider rollout across EU Member States.
The use cases being developed by the consortium range from opening a foreign bank account and issuing electronic invoices to enabling representatives to act on behalf of companies and improving Know Your Customer processes. Through digital identity wallets, businesses can securely share verified information relating to identity, ownership and compliance.
The General Assembly will focus on evaluating the results of ongoing pilot activities and preparing the next phase of wallet implementation. The initiative supports the European objectives of strengthening digital sovereignty and competitiveness, improving cross-border interoperability and simplifying administrative processes.
“Visa and Banca Transilvania are pleased to welcome the WE BUILD Consortium to Romania for ‘WE BUILD for the Future’, a gathering that reflects the importance of collaboration in shaping Europe’s digital identity and payments ecosystem. As digital trust becomes a foundation for economic growth, financial inclusion and seamless cross-border services, we believe Romania can play an important role in advancing secure, interoperable and user-centric digital solutions for the future,” said Elena Ungureanu, Country Manager at Visa in Romania, and Oana Ilas, Deputy CEO – Head of Retail Banking at Banca Transilvania.
By hosting the General Assembly in Bucharest, Visa and Banca Transilvania are supporting dialogue and practical collaboration around the future of Europe’s digital identity and payments ecosystem.
