Imports via Hungary into Romania: VAT deferment opportunities, customs simplifications

The Hungary–Romania logistics corridor is one of the main trade routes in Central and Eastern Europe, with Hungary playing a strategic role as a regional hub for the transit and distribution of goods originating from Western Europe, while Romania represents an important destination market. Cross-border trade flows are supported in particular by sectors such as e-commerce, the automotive industry and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). In addition, considering the expansion of railway lines on the China–Budapest route, access to simplified import options is becoming increasingly important for the Romanian business environment.

EY Romania is pleased to invite you on 21 July 2026, at 10:00, to an interactive webinar dedicated to companies involved in import and international distribution operations, during which we will analyse the solutions available for imports of goods carried out through Hungary and destined for the Romanian market.

During the session, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Optimisation opportunities available to companies using this trade route
  • Import VAT deferment mechanisms
  • The use of customs procedure 4200
  • The implications of indirect customs representation
  • Key customs and tax obligations and responsibilities
  • Compliance risks from both customs and tax perspectives

Potential cash flow benefits generated by these structures
