Centrul Step by Step (The Step by Step Center for Education and Professional Development, www.stepbystep.ro), a founding member of the International Step by Step Association, was established as an association in March 1998. It brings together supporters of a modern, democratic, innovative educational system that ensures respect for diversity and equal access to quality learning experiences. It is a non-profit organization that promotes the principles of quality early education and implements projects for modernizing education and sustainable community development. The Step by Step Center's programs target children, parents, professionals and decision-makers.

Step by Step is an alternative method of educating children, from birth to adolescence, based on the scientific data of child development psychology, which places the child - his or her personality and abilities - at the center of the teaching-learning-assessment process, with an individualized approach.

In the Step by Step educational alternative, the child learns through discovery and interaction with the environment, and the family and community are encouraged to be partners in this process.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the network of kindergartens and schools from the Romanian public system, which apply the Step by Step educational alternative, consists of 603 groups from 138 kindergartens, 950 classes from 161 schools, at the primary education level and 13 classes from 4 schools, at the secondary education level.

The continuous learning and professional training of teachers in annual sessions creates the strength of our national network of professionals for a modern, innovative, and inclusive public education system. Throughout 2023, 2500 teachers participated in training courses in the methodology of the Step by Step alternative. Moreover, 3000 professionals in early education, participated in professional development courses and support for quality educational practices.
