Romanian-American Foundation

Romanian-American Foundation (RAF) is the largest American grant making foundation in Romania, whose programming is targeted around three strategic priorities: rural economy, technology & innovation, and civic engagement. RAF uses education as a cross-cutting investment to ensure the sustainability of its interventions.

The mission of the Romanian-American Foundation is to strengthen and promote conditions for a sustainable market economy and a democratic society that provides access to opportunity for all segments of Romanian society.

The establishment of the Romanian-American Foundation was made possible through the successful investments of the Romanian-American Enterprise Fund (RAEF) in the private sector in over 15 years of active presence in Romania. The US Government decided that, except $ 25 million returned to the US Treasury, the proceeds of the RAEF investment portfolio to be contributed as endowment of the Romanian-American Foundation. The current endowment is $150 million.
