1993 - The Beginning: AmCham Romania was established in 1993 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization. It began with a small group of U.S. based companies aiming to foster strong economic and trade relations between Romania and the United States.
1990s - Building Bridges: During its early years, AmCham Romania played a pivotal role in advocating for economic reforms and policy changes that facilitated foreign investment. Through its advocacy efforts, the chamber contributed to the development of a more transparent and business-friendly environment in Romania.
2000s - Growth and Expansion: In the 2000s, AmCham Romania expanded its membership and impact, from 50 members in .... to over 250 in 2006. The organization actively engaged with officials and decision makers, providing a platform for constructive dialogue on issues crucial to businesses.
During this decade, AmCham has supported Romania’s efforts toward reaching historic goals, that placed the country on a growth path, such as becoming a NATO ally (2004) and a EU member state (2007).
Notable AmCham initiatives during the 2000s include launching the Corporate Social Responsibly Conference and “People2People” Awards Gala, in partnership with ARC Romania, first editions of the “Priorities for Romania” (2004), the set of recommendations shared with political parties running for Presidency and Parliamentary elections.
2010s - Innovation and Sustainability: As Romania evolved, AmCham remained at the forefront of promoting public policies that would make Romania an attractive investment destination.
AmCham leading priorities included transparent and predictable fiscal and legal framework, observing the rule of law, EU Funds absorption, long term vision and strategy for economic growth.
30 years later, AmCham Romania speaks on behalf of +550 members, active in 32 business sectors, U.S., international and Romanian companies that together employ over 250.000 people in Romania, have a cumulated turnover of EUR 65 billion, and a direct contribution to Romania’s GDP of 12.1%, and a total share (direct + indirect contribution) of 18.7% of the GDP.
