American Independent Film Festival /3rd edition/April 12-18 Bucharest: Cinema PRO &Cinema Muzeul Țăranului

The third edition of the American Independent Film Festival has officially announced its full program. Films that have premiered in and been selected to some of the world’s most important festivals, such as Sundance, Toronto, Cannes, Venice, and Telluride will be screening in Romanian premiere, between the 12th and the 18th of April, at Cinema PRO and Cinema Muzeul Țăranului in Bucharest.

Special guests of the 3rd edition :

Director Jacques Audiard (winner of the Palme d'Or in Cannes for Dheepan) will attend the Opening Night of the American Independent Film Festival to present his latest film The Sisters Brothers, on Friday, April 12th, at 8:00 pm at Cinema PRO. 

Director Roberto Minervini, known for his poetic, radical, and realist cinema, he will present two of his films at the American Independent Film Festival: What You Gonna Do When  the World's on Fire? and The Other Side. As special guest, the Houston-based director of Italian origin has also been invited to curate a carte blanche selection for the Romanian public of the most interesting American productions in recent history from his point of view. AMERICAN PERSPECTIVES BY ROBERTO MINERVINI will present films by Bill & Turner Ross, Barbara Loden and Roger Corman.

Q&As via Skype

Directors Paul Schrader and Kent Jones will hold Q&As with the festival audience live via Skype, after the premieres of their most recent films: First Reformed by P. Schrader, April 13th, 8.30 pm at Cinema Muzeul Taranului and Diane, by Kent Jones, April 14, at 8.00 pm, at Cinema PRO.

  • THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN by David Lowery (2018, 1h 33 min). In competition, Toronto 2018.
  • PUZZLE by Marc Turtletaub (2018, 1h 43 min). Sundance 2018.
  • VOX LUX by Brady Corbert (2018, 1h 54 min). In competition, Venice 2018.
  • FIRST REFORMED by Paul Schrader (2017, 1h 53 min). In competition, Venice 2018; nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Oscars 2019.
