Wishes made true at HOSPICE Casa Speranței. Through the 3,5% campaign, more destinies can be changed for the better

“All I wish for is one day without pain” is the plea most often heard by the HOSPICE people. For 30 years, more than 45.000 patients and 100.000 of their family members received free and unconditional palliative care services.

This year, the foundation can help make true the wishes of more than 5.000 patients—children and adults. And you can help them in a simple and easy way. All you need to do is redirect to HOSPICE 3,5% of the income tax collected by the state last year. Form 230 can be filled out online: https://www.hospice.ro/3punct5hospice/

HOSPICE patients' stories inspire us

Iuliana`s story with the disease which she won’t even pronounce began in 2013. It was an earth-shattering moment when she saw her diagnosis written down. “When I read the word malignant, I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I felt like my life had ended.” But life went on, even though her mind grew darker and each day seemed meaningless.

A disease like any other. You fight against yourself

It was a long and difficult process for her to realize that she held the power. It took psychotherapy, psychiatry sessions, and the support of her family who fought alongside her every step. Her daughters cried in privacy, as did she—the husband being the only one who, in a demonstration of strength, allowed himself to be vulnerable and reassure her that he still needed her for many many years.

Now she believes that this illness, which she still refuses to name, can be defeated. Or at the very least, you can stop the havoc it might wreak on the soul. It may take you down, and break your spirits, but then you must turn around and show it that you have your own techniques and strategies to fight for your life.

If there is no free time, there is no time for anguish

She kept herself busy, even after chemotherapy sessions. She continued working until last year when, because of health and family problems, she was forced to resign. But she planned carefully to keep herself busy. Now she has the most pleasant occupation of all: taking care of her little grandchild. “I would recommend it to anyone with a diagnosis like my own: keep as busy as possible, don’t close yourself off, and reach out for open arms.”

Mrs. Iuliana says that HOSPICE, which she thinks of as her second family, helped fill her toolbox. At HOSPICE she learned to be kinder to herself and dare to look for life beyond the diagnosis and treatment plans.
