Schoenherr advises Nofar Energy on the acquisition of a 153 MW photovoltaic park under development in Romania

by Schoenherr August 10, 2021

Schoenherr Romania advised Nofar Energy on the acquisition of a photovoltaic park together with Econergy from Portland Trust. The photovoltaic park has an authorised capacity of 153 MW currently under development, and is located in Arges county, Romania.

Schoenherr's services covered the full range of buy-side legal advice, with a focus on corporate/M&A, regulatory, and real estate matters.

"We are delighted to have advised Nofar Energy on the acquisition of what will be the largest photovoltaic project in Romania," said Schoenherr Romania partner Monica Cojocaru, who led the team advising on the project. "This transaction reconfirms international investors' trust in the long-term potential of the Romanian renewables market, even though governmental support is still lagging behind."

Nofar Energy develops, certifies, builds and operates photovoltaic systems, mainly in the dual segment (stored and rooftop power). As an engineering company, Nofar leverages its in-house capabilities to achieve operating flexibility and other benefits in this segment, which features surplus yield projects.

Econergy is an international IPP (independent power producer) of utility-scale renewable energy projects. It develops, owns and operates utility-scale renewable energy projects driven by deep industry, regulatory and technology expertise at every critical stage from origination to supply.

The Schoenherr team advising on this transaction was led by Monica Cojocaru (local partner), with a key role in the project played by Mădălina Mitan (managing attorney at law).

Schoenherr has been active in Romania for 25 years. The firm provides full-service legal and tax advice to multinational and local companies. Schoenherr Romania has a strong track record in the energy sector. This year, the firm launched renew romania, a publication aimed at providing investors and developers a full picture of what it means to do business in this sector in Romania.
