Since 2004, United Way Romania has been working in the three areas that we believe form the basis of a better life: education, socio-professional integration and health. Every year, we help over 11,000 people to have a better life.
None of what we have accomplished so far would have been possible without support. The need is still very high, and the pandemic situation makes things even more complicated.
If the investment in education, health or socio-professional integration is also important for your company, redirect 20% of the profit tax to United Way Romania Foundation and thus join our efforts to support thousands of vulnerable children, young people and elderly to offer them the chance to education, a job or a dignified old age.
At the end of 2021, we would like to share with you Răzvan’s story. A year ago he couldn’t read. Now he reads the newspaper to his grandmother.
Răzvan is in the fourth grade and lives with his grandmother, who can't read or write. His mother went abroad to work and she hasn't come home for three years. The father abandoned his family shortly after Răzvan's birth.
The grandmother made every effort to take care of the child, however it was difficult for her to make up for the lack of the parents in the boy's life. The child told his grandmother that he was going to school, but in reality he was walking the streets of the city. Several times, he came back home accompanied by police officers who found him begging. In third grade, he was one step away to repeat the school year.
United Way supports Răzvan
At the beginning of the fourth grade, Răzvan entered the "Learn to Succeed" program of United Way. Every day, after school, he comes to the center where he receives more than a warm meal, school supplies and clothing. He receives the care, attention and the encouragement which he desperately needs. The confidemce that the teachers at the school gave him and his perseverance made lead to real progress and he was able to recover the learning gap.
Now he reads fluently and uses each break to read a few more lines from a storybook borrowed from the educational center. His success encouraged him and now, every night, he reads the newspaper to his grandmother.
Răzvan is on the right path now, but he is not safe from any danger. Without the support he receives at the center, he could return to the streets and to the bad examples he finds there. United Way's educational program is Răzvan's chance not to drop out of school and have a better future! Donate so that Răzvan and hundreds of other children like him can choose education, not the street! It is in your power to help. Every contribution counts!
