KPMG recently advised Electrica, the largest electricity distribution and supply operator in Romania, on its acquisition of a 22% stake in its subsidiaries from Fondul Proprietatea. The transaction is the most attractive investment opportunity Electrica has had in the past three years and supports the implementation of the Group’s strategy.
KPMG assisted Electrica as M&A and regulatory buy side advisor during this transaction. The KPMG Deal Advisory team of specialized professionals in Energy and Natural Resources led by Bogdan Vaduva, Partner and Mirela Ivanov, Director, contributed through their proven sector, financial and regulatory expertise to the success of the transaction.
Bogdan commented: “We are pleased to have advised Electrica, one of our strategic clients, and to once again see our dedicated team, with strong local energy sector expertise, contribute to this major transaction. We believe that our in-depth energy sector knowledge, our commitment and integrated approach combined with the excellent team effort of Electrica’s management served to capture the benefits of the transaction and facilitated the Group’s transformation and growth.”
KPMG remains a leading advisor in the M&A market and holds a long standing experience in the Romanian energy sector. The assistance our firm has given to Electrica complements KPMG’s prominent role in every major sector transformation since 2009 and further strengthens the expertise of its specialized M&A and Energy and Natural Resources practice. The Electrica deal consolidates KPMG’s position as a leading adviser in the energy sector by adding to its portfolio of major successful transactions that include, among others, Allianz Capital Partners’ acquisition of a minority stake in E.ON Distributie Romania, as well as Electrica’s Initial Public Offering on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
