Kinstellar strengthens its Real Estate team with new Partner in Bucharest

by Kinstellar May 2, 2017

Kinstellar, Emerging Europe and Central Asia’s leading independent law firm, is delighted to announce that Victor Constantinescu has joined its Bucharest office as a Partner in the real estate team. Victor’s remit within the firm will extend across the CEE region, and he will coordinate our real estate teams in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine, alongside the Kinstellar real estate sector head, Klára Štěpánková.

Victor is regarded as one of the top lawyers in Romania when it comes to commercial real estate across all asset classes: he brings a wealth of domestic and cross border real estate and corporate M&A experience to both our Romanian and regional practices. Prior to joining us, he was a founding and co-managing partner at the Romanian firm Biriş Goran (as well as the head of its highly regarded real estate department). Victor also worked for Salans (now Dentons) in its Bucharest and Shanghai offices from 2003 to 2006 and in Chicago for Altheimer & Gray from 2001 to 2003.

Victor focuses on all aspects of real estate transactions in Romania and other countries in the region for a range of international investment funds and local developers. His particular emphasis is on transactional work: acquisitions and sales of commercial real estate, as well as joint ventures, across all asset classes: retail, office, logistics, and agricultural. His practice includes advising institutional investment funds and, as a result, it extends beyond Romania’s borders. He is actively involved in the business communities: being vice president of both the Romanian South African Business Association and the newly created Canadian Business Exchange of Romania. Victor will work closely with Partner Răzvan Popa and the existing real estate team in Bucharest to continue the development of the Romanian practice.

Victor has been ranked for several years as a Band 1 lawyer in the Romanian real estate sector by the leading international legal directories Chambers, Legal 500 and other benchmark publications. In recent editions, clients recommend him as "an outstanding practitioner for his commercially-oriented approach", as well as for "his commercial and precise advice, flexibility and international experience”. He is further described as "experienced, active and well connected’, with clients appreciating the "very easy communication" with him.

Victor completed his BA at the University of Pennsylvania, his MA in Russian and East European Studies at the University of Toronto, his LLB (common law) and his BCL (civil law) at McGill University.

Born in Canada of Romanian immigrant parents, he is a native English speaker, is fluent in Romanian and has a working knowledge of French. He began his career practicing in the United States before moving to Romania full-time in 2004.
He is admitted to the New York and Bucharest Bars.

Jason Mogg, Firm Managing Partner, comments: “I am delighted that Victor is joining our Bucharest team. He is a highly respected lawyer with a standout reputation in Romania and his expertise will be a tremendous asset to our firm and its clients and an excellent addition to our practice in Romania. I am confident that Victor will make a major contribution to the success and development of the Bucharest office and to the already strong firm-wide real estate practice, including in Turkey, Serbia, Ukraine and Bulgaria. We welcome him to the team and very much look forward to his joining.”

Klára Štěpánková, Partner and head of the firm-wide real estate sector, adds: ‘‘We are very pleased to welcome Victor. He is one of the leading real estate lawyers in the CEE region, with an impressive track record representing a variety of local and international clients. His expertise and familiarity with the intricacies of the real estate sector will bring a new dimension to our current capabilities. We look forward to working with him!’’
