BUCHAREST, Romania, October 29, 2013 – Intel Romania Software Development Center is providing 10 scholarships to Bucharest technical university bachelor students for the current academic year. The scholarships are to be granted for a 5 month period (February – June 2014) and are addressed to students who are preparing their Bachelor paper on the following fields of study: Operating Systems, Networking or Perceptual Computing. In addition to financial support, the students will be mentored by engineers from Intel Romania during their project development, receiving technical support at the Intel Romania headquarter or within the Intel Student Open Laboratory, located in the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science.

“Due to the excellent results obtained by the IRSDC scholars last year, we have supplemented the number of scholarships. Our current aim remains unchanged: to attract the most passionate and highly motivated students and offer them our support in gaining experience by working with the newest Intel technologies, under the close guidance of our engineers, as to develop relevant research and development software projects, with immediate applicability. Basically, we support professionalization at the highest level for future engineers,” declared Monica Ene-Pietroșanu Country Manager, Intel Romania Software Development Center.

Last year, Intel Romania Software Development Center provided scholarships worth approximately 33,500 lei aimed at supporting bachelor studies.

Students interested in obtaining a scholarship offered by Intel Romania can apply for one of the projects posted at www.diplodocus.ro by sending their CV. The selected students will be interviewed by technical university professors and also by Intel Romania Software Development Center representatives, events followed by announcing the scholars list at http://intel.pub.ro/.

A maximum of two students are allowed to work on a project, under the guidance of a mixed team formed by one or two IRSDC engineers and one university teacher. The Intel Romania engineers will also have the task of evaluating all partial results and lead the student throughout the project.

Apart from scholarships, Intel Romania Software Development Center is announcing four internships extending on a one-year period which are addressed to final year bachelor students, as well as to master and Ph.D. students who are Linux, C or C++ enthusiasts.

Simultaneously, Intel offers an important number of summer internships exclusively for intermediate year students, within the Intel Summer Experience program.

Moreover, apart from the scholarship and internship programs, Intel is also organizing student parallel programming and Open Source competitions, courses and workshops.

Recently, Intel announced a donation of 40 Galileo development boards for the University Politehnica of Bucharest, which are to be used in course demonstrations, in laboratories and also in developing Open Source research-development projects within university. UPB is one of the first 17 universities globally which will benefit from the Galileo development board using Intel Quark, the newest Intel chip. As a result, the University will have the necessary means to develop their curriculum and support students to undertake individual study projects.
