  • 81 graduates join EY Romania’s team this fall
  • 5 employees from EY Romania obtained first place at national level in the last session of the ACCA exam, an international professional certification in financial accounting

Eighty one new graduates were employed within the professional services company EY Romania in September 2014, representing the largest number of graduates employed after the opening of the EY office in Romania in 1992, 56% more than last year. The number of EY employees has thus reached 554. About 60% of the new employees will join the Assurance practice, while the rest will be part of Tax and Legal, Transactions and Advisory departments.

Over 2,000 students from university centers in Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi, Timisoara and Oradea applied this year in a complex recruitment campaign that lasted for two months and involved pre-selection of resumes, video interviews, written evaluations of candidates and face to face interviews with HR professionals and EY managers. Skills and knowledge that counted the most in the selection were candidates’ verbal, logical and numerical skills, written and spoken English, as well as expertise in the economic field and candidates’ compatibility with EY’s organizational culture.

As a novelty, this year EY Romania was the first local company that has successfully used video recruitment in their campaign. Video interviewing was applied to approximately 40% of candidates who passed the initial pre-selection of resumes, the main reason for adopting this method consisting in the need to manage a large number of applications in a short time, streamline the selection and increase the quality of the recruitment process in itself.

By recruiting some of the most talented and motivated young graduates of 2014, for which EY will be a first job experience, the company assumes the responsibility to guide their careers and provide opportunities for their professional development. EY meets this challenge by taking on the role of preparing a new generation of business leaders by offering numerous development and training programs and diverse work experiences, coupled with access to global resources, multinational teams and best practices in the field. Also, EY managers have assumed the role of mentors, offering coaching and mentoring to their colleagues at the start of their career.

Emphasis on the training of newcomers

All graduates will be included in training programs that are certified in the field of consulting. EY invests globally, on average, 3.000 EUR for training each employee. This investment is reflected in the exceptional results young EY professionals obtain in the examination sessions for various international certifications: ACCA, ICAEW Chartered Accountant (ACA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).

At the last session of the ACCA exams, one of the most prestigious international professional certification in the field of accounting, 5 EY Romania employees obtained first place nationally and were ranked in the top 25 global results. Also, at this session, three EY Romania employees have achieved ACCA certification, after completing the 14-step exams of the program.
Worldwide, 140,000 professionals hold this certification and 404,000 ACCA students are at various stages of obtaining certification. Of the 554 employees from EY Romania and 20 from EY Moldova, 143 are enrolled in the ACCA program and 60 are already members of the association.

"We welcome the 81 juniors to EY Romania’s team! By entering the EY team, they are making their first step towards a career in auditing and consulting. Through exposure to diverse work experience, training and development programs, they will have the opportunity to train as professionals at a competitive level with any other professional from Romania or abroad. Also, as their level of knowledge, experience and expertise will increase, they will advance in the organization from junior to senior, manager, senior manager or even partner level," says Bogdan Ion, Country Managing Partner EY Romania.

"The first employer has an important impact. It shapes the behavior of graduates, transfers expectations, transforms potential into performance. Moreover, it is a unique opportunity to correctly imprint the values of a successful person in the minds of the newly hired. Every year, EY Romania assumes this collective role of trainer, mentor and employer, this year for an even greater number of young people who come from the most talented Romanian universities. I welcome them with responsibility and the belief that they have reached the right place," concluded Andreea Mihnea, HR Director, EY Romania.
