Vodafone Romania signed agreement to acquire Evotracking, a top Romanian IoT company operating EVOGPS brand

by Vodafone February 26, 2018

Vodafone Romania signed an agreement for the acquisition of the Internet of Things (IoT) company Evotracking, a Romanian privately owned entity operating the EVOGPS brand.

Founded in 2009, Evotracking specialises in the implementation of advanced telematics solutions and is one of the top players on the local fleet management services market. The company’s portfolio comprises more than 40 fleet management products that allow real-time tracking and monitoring of fleets, fuel control, driver behaviour analysis and other telematics solutions tailored for businesses across any industry, irrespective of their size.

Vodafone Romania currently offers fleet management solutions for companies of all sizes, regardless of their field of activity, which can be used to locate and monitor fleets via GPS. Vodafone Fleet Management is a solution that can be applied to fleets of all sizes and the recently launched Vodafone Auto Manager, which is the first plug-and-play solution in the Romanian market, is addressed to companies with fleets of less than ten cars.

Vodafone Romania has been providing IoT services since 2003 for various industries such as retail, automotive, logistics and utilities. The IoT portfolio covers a wide range of needs, from fleet management, to telemetry, remote management of vending machines, as well as security and surveillance for home and office buildings.

”This is the first 100% acquisition that Vodafone Romania has made in the local market and reflects the quality of Evotracking’s business. This transaction consolidates our position as the leading IoT provider in Romania and will enable us to provide customers with a broader range of technologies and services”, stated Murielle Lorilloux, CEO Vodafone Romania.

Vodafone is the global leader in Internet of Things with more than 63.9 million IoT SIMs and its 4G IoT roaming footprint is the world’s largest, covering 109 countries. Vodafone’s first commercially available Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network was launched in Spain in January 2017 and the group now has NB-IoT launched in nine markets. In Romania, Vodafone became the first telecom operator to successfully test a solution based on NB-IoT technology, in the oil and gas industry, in November 2017.

Independent industry analyst rankings from multiple industry analyst houses place Vodafone as a leader in IoT, being uniquely placed to offer IoT customers choice across converging technologies – fixed, mobile and cloud.

The closing of this acquisition is contingent on a number of conditions, as customary in such type of transactions.

Vodafone Romania is a subsidiary of Vodafone Group, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies providing a range of services including voice, messaging, data and fixed communications. Vodafone has mobile operations in 26 countries, partners with mobile networks in 49 more, and fixed broadband operations in 19 markets. As of December 31, 2017, Vodafone Group had 529.1 million mobile customers and 19.3 million fixed broadband customers, including India and all of the customers in Vodafone’s joint ventures and associates.
