SIVECO breaks record in the history of World Summit Award and places Romania in the world elite of digital innovation, by winning the competition for the third time

World Summit Award 2016, the most important global competition of IT professionals, held under UN patronage, has attracted submissions this year from 178 UN member states, out of which more than 450 have reached the finals.

Representing Romania with `Kazakhstan, the land of the great steppe` application, SIVECO Romania has been nominated winner in Culture & Tourism category.

The WSA winners were selected by a Jury of international ICT experts in two democratic rounds. Each UN Member State is eligible to nominate one product per category for the World Summit Award. This way any nomination results from a national pre-selection prior to the international WSA Jury and guarantees a fair and democratic process.

This is the third winner title in WSA for the IT company based in Romania. The previous titles won by SIVECO Romania were awarded for `The best interactive eContent in the world`, in 2005; and for the project "Special schools Portal - CES (Interactive multimedia educational content for children with special educational needs)".

With this year’s performance, SIVECO helds a world record, as no other company has ever received so many WSA titles.

`We are immensely honoured and proud of this achievement! It is not SIVECO’s victory only – this victory belongs to Romania and we are happy to be able to bring the national flag on such a select stage. We have won three World Summit Awards so far, with three projects, in three different categories. It is the highest award that can be granted to an IT project at worldwide level. The Romanian project approaches differently the traditional presentation resources. It brings an impressive variety of full multimedia interactive resources in one application, in order to virtually explore the society and culture of the world’s ninth largest country: image galleries, time-lapse movies, Panorama/ 360º views, virtual tours, 3D objects, multi-layer maps and info graphics.

The awarded application is officially distributed by the Kazakh diplomats to those who wish to know more about their country, replacing the traditional printed brochures.

`The innovation comes from the fact that all the information about a country can be found now on one single application, available for all types of mobile devices. The information on a topic is cross link with others in order to offer a large context of the user’s area of interest. The WSA award confirms that we created a tool that has the capacity to transform information into knowledge.

The application framework is suitable for any other similar topic - from country profile to a museum tour - and it can be considered as a starting point for a new generation of mobile applications`, says Bogdan Gornea, Technical Leader of the team that developed the winning application.

Along with the SIVECO specialists, the project involved a team of Kazakh and foreign experts, including writers, journalists, photographers, videographers, graphic designers and programmers, totalling 80 people and 33 public and private organizations, working intensively on the product for more than 18 months.
