The 2014 Halloween Charity Ball celebrated OvidiuRo’s 10th anniversary and raised €267,000 toward its 2015 budget goal for the Fiecare Copil in Gradinita program, which focuses on getting disadvantaged children into the education system by the age of three – when it can really make a difference in their school readiness.
Most importantly, Minister of Education Remus Pricopie, who attended the event with his daughter, stated that “Fiecare Copil in Gradinita is an example of a good practice that should be national. The next round of EU funds should include a focus on preschool education following OvidiuRo’s scheme of joining forces of local authorities, teachers and parents for the benefit of young children”.
In keeping with the 2014 costume theme „The Magic of the Movies” OvidiuRo gave four „Ovidiu Academy Awards”:
1. French actress Bérénice Bejo and director Michel Hazanavicius ("The Artist") gave Irina Margareta Nistor the Friedrich Niemann "Lifetime Achievement Award", as a recognition of her contribution to the awareness of civil society by being „the voice” of over 3000 foreign movies illicitly distributed in Romania on VHS in the 1980’s. Bejo and Hazanavicius were in Romania for Cristian Mungiu’s popular „Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest” Festival.
2. The President of the Commission for European Affairs, Angel Tilvar, gave the award for “Best Adaptation” to the Cluj County Council for being the first county in Romania to include Fiecare Copil in Gradinita in its budget.
3. The award for „Longest Running Sponsor” went to KMG International (formerly Rompetrol) for its 10 years of continuous support, handed by Paula Herlo and Cristian Leonte.
4. “Best New Producer” Award went to Dedeman, Romania’s largest „home grown” construction supply company. Oana Cuzino presented the award.
Dragos Bucurenci and ProTV’s Amalia Enache hosted the event, organized under the patronage of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Valeriu Zgonea, and the Chamber’s Education Committee.
Under the slogan “Fiecare Donor e Castigator”, €55,000 was donated by attendees during the event itself thanks to Cabral Ibacka, Adela Vrinceanu Celebidachi and Bryan Jardine. The evening’s most generous donors were Steven van Groningen on behalf of Raiffeisen Bank and Celebidachi family.
