Wolf Theiss released on Thursday, 29th of May 2014, during an event organized at Radisson Blu hotel in Bucharest, the fifth (2014) edition of its flagship publication, The Wolf Theiss Guide to: Generating Electricity from Renewable Sources in Central, Eastern & Southeastern Europe.

The event brought together the most important players in the renewable energy sector in Romania and was dedicated at highlighting the major legal and regulatory changes that have occurred during the past year.
During the event, Wolf Theiss` representatives have underlined the importance of the untapped potential of renewable energy in our country and stressed that more attention will turn to this area while the opportunities are becoming more limited in the mature European markets of the European Union.

Since the publication of its first edition, in 2009, the RES Guide has brought an important contribution to consolidating Wolf Theiss as a professional and successful expert in the renewable energy sector for this fast evolving Central, Eastern and Southeastern European region.

The aim of this publication is to bring an updated insight into the laws and regulations pertinent to the region's future renewable energy development and alternative ways of generating electricity.

Bryan Jardine, the Wolf Theiss partner heading the firm's Renewable Energy Working Group acknowledged that some of the region's important markets, including Bulgaria and Romania, have suffered some serious regulatory set-backs. However, he quoted the reaction of the European Commission which, in its November 2013 Guidance for design of renewables support schemes, strongly reprimanded the Member States that "have introduced several unannounced measures that caught investors by surprise, altered expected returns, and diminished confidence in the entire energy sector".

“This region has tremendous untapped potential for the exploitation of renewable energy. We have already seen some serious developments and investments but as the other markets in Europe become more mature and good opportunities there become scarce, even more attention will turn to our region", concluded Bryan Jardine.

The Wolf Theiss Guide to: Generating Electricity from Renewable Sources in Central, Eastern & Southeastern Europe has now become the leading practical guide to the principal regulatory features of RES-Electricity projects in 15 jurisdictions, including the 13 countries where Wolf Theiss has offices or cooperation arrangements, as well as Kosovo and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

In the first part of the Guide, we present an executive summary outlining the current regulatory framework applicable in each of the 15 jurisdictions. The second chapter of the Guide contains an outline of the main forces driving the development of RES-Electricity in our region. The regulatory framework applicable in each jurisdiction is described in more detail in the country chapters which follow a uniform structure to facilitate cross-referencing.
