GDPR Year Four: Upcoming Challenges and Trends

AmCham Romania is pleased to invite you to the GDPR Year Four: Upcoming Challenges and Trends Conference, on May 18, 2022, between 10:30 – 13:00, in a hybrid format, at AmCham Office and online.The conference is part of the #AmChamDataProtectionMonth a series of events and actions to mark the four-year anniversary of the Regulation for the Protection of Personal Data (GDPR) and focuses on the future of data protection policies and challenges.

About the speakers:

Luca Tosoni, Senior Legal Adviser, International Affairs Section, Norwegian Data Protection Authority

Luca Tosoni is a Senior Legal Advisor at the international affairs department of the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet). In that capacity, Luca regularly contributes to the workings of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), and is involved in cross-border investigations.

Luca is a dual-qualified lawyer, in Italy and Belgium, and prior to joining Datatilsynet he has practiced law in a top-tier international law firm in Brussels. He has also worked as a researcher at the University of Oslo, and has published extensively on data protection law. Most notably, Luca is one of the main contributors to the Commentary on the GDPR published by Oxford University Press in 2020, which is the leading English-language commentary on the GDPR.


 

Sebastião Barros Vale, EU Policy Counsel, The Future of Privacy Forum

Sebastião Barros Vale serves as the EU Policy Counsel at the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), where he is following and analyzing privacy and data protection European and national case law, recent academic research, guidelines, and decisions from the European Data Protection Board and national Data Protection Authorities. He actively monitors the activity of EU institutions around privacy and data protection, including Communications and Proposals of the European Commission and legislative reports from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.

He completed a traineeship at the Cabinet of EU Commissioner Věra Jourová, where he contributed to the 1st Annual Review of the EU-US Privacy Shield and to the Commission Guidance on the applicability of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). As a qualified lawyer in Portugal, he practiced at the ICT practice area of Vieira de Almeida e Associados, assisting clients from the healthcare, retail, energy and financial sectors in complying with the GDPR and other privacy-related laws. Just before joining FPF, he worked as an in-house privacy expert at Johnson & Johnson.  

Sebastião holds an LL.M in EU Law from the College of Europe (2016, Belgium), where he wrote his thesis on alternative international data transfer mechanisms after the invalidation of the EU-US Safe Harbour Decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union. 


Cristina Năstase has practical experience in implementing the principles and concepts of personal data protection in all business operations for the BCR Group, covering areas such as banking, investments and savings, leasing, insurance and other related business processes, acting as Group Data Protection since May, 2018. She is an active member of the Romanian Banking Association, being involved in all data protection initiatives at industry level. With an overall experience in the banking industry of over 15 years, Cristina has extensive legal background in various areas of expertise, including corporate governance, competition, mergers & acquisitions and experience in mitigating corporate and compliance risks.

 

 

 

Diana Buzoianu is a former GDPR lawyer, currently a deputy in the Romanian Parliament, working in both the environment commission and the information and communication technology commission. Diana’s mission is making Romania’s institutions a little more adapted to the digital era and much more transparent.

The discussion will be in English. Participation is open to all AmCham members, based on prior registration here by May 17, 2022, 15:00.

The in-person participation is restricted to 30 participants on a first-come first-served based.
