#DataProtection Hour: AmCham Discussion with Sebastião Barros Vale, Future of Privacy Forum and Régis Chatellier, French Data Protection Authority

The AmCham Data Protection & ePrivacy TF invites members to a discussion focused on the topic of metaverse, with special guests Sebastião Barros Vale, EU Policy Counsel at the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), and Régis Chatellier, Innovation & Foresight Project Manager at LINC (Laboratoire d'Innovation Numerique de la CNIL), the innovation and foresight laboratory of the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority).

The online event will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, starting with 16:00 pm.

This online meeting is part of our #DataPrivacyHour and is designed as a follow up to our "GDPR Year Four: Upcoming Challenges and Trends" conference which took place in early May this year.

Participation is open to AmCham Romania members, free of charge, based on prior registration. Please register by Thursday, October 4, 2022, 5:00 pm. All registered participants will be provided with the connection details via email.

Meet the speakers: 

Sebastião Barros Vale, EU Policy Counsel at the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF)

Sebastião Barros Vale serves as the EU Policy Counsel at the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), where he is following and analyzing privacy and data protection European and national case law, recent academic research, guidelines, and decisions from the European Data Protection Board and national Data Protection Authorities. He actively monitors the activity of EU institutions around privacy and data protection, including Communications and Proposals of the European Commission and legislative reports from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.

Sebastião holds an LL.M in EU Law from the College of Europe (2016, Belgium), where he wrote his thesis on alternative international data transfer mechanisms after the invalidation of the EU-US Safe Harbour Decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union. Two notable papers he published focused on the interplay between the GDPR and the EU’s DIrective on digital payment services (PSD2), and on how European anti-discrimination, consumer, and data protection rules shield consumers against pervasive online price personalization. 

Régis Chatellier, Innovation & Foresight Project Manager at LINC (Laboratoire d'Innovation Numerique de la CNIL), the innovation and foresight laboratory of the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority)

Régis Chatellier is Innovation & Foresight Project Manager at LINC (Laboratoire d'Innovation Numerique de la CNIL), the innovation and foresight laboratory of the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority). The Innovation and foresight team intends to explore data and privacy issues in order to anticipate and innovate in the regulation, opening studies and reports to actively participate in privacy and data ethics debates, and to assist future CNIL’s position (on smart cities, design and privacy, civic tech, voice assistant, DNA test, metaverse, etc.);

He has been using the techniques of foresight, speculative design and design fiction in its work for several years. He published two articles on Metaverse in 2022.
