Uncertainty, the Word That Defines the Beginning of 2021, Partnership, the Needed Approach to Build trust

Uncertainty about the business continuity, the evolution of the health and economic crisis and the concern over potential changes in legislation are the biggest challenges companies are facing, according to the responses of 155 AmCham Romania members to a survey on the impact the of the pandemic on their businesses, ran between December 15, 2020 - January 20, 2021.

While these are global challenges that affect all economies, we consider that Romania is in a privileged situation due to: the beginning of new legislative and executive mandates meant to bring stability; the beginning of a new period of allocation of European funds of which Romania can benefit from in record amounts; the considerable overlapping of Government and private sector priorities. We are pleased to find a significant share of the AmCham strategic recommendations  in the Priorities for Romania document reflected in the Government PlanAmCham Romania President Ionuț Simion said.

A joint priority is Romania's accession to the OECD, preferably until 2025, an objective that also requires intensive efforts from the public authorities responsible with the implementation of the economic policy, yet, for which they can rely on a strong support from the business community.

Such favorable aspects ensure the premises for real consultations and collaboration, for a partnership between private and public stakeholders towards the launch and implementation of their shared objectives that will contribute to consolidating trust and a predictable investment climate in Romania, sending a positive message to both companies present in Romania, as well as to those prospecting the region.

The dialogue and collaboration between the authorities and the business environment will contribute to reducing the uncertainty that marks the beginning of 2021 and to turning it from a risk factor into an opportunity for Romania’s development, enabled by the financial, digital and human resources our country has.

Following a 2020 that had reached to a highest level of uncertainty in the postwar history, 2021 lies ahead as a unique period during which, despite the multiple challenges, Romania has the unprecedented opportunity to start major reforms and projects, to bridge gaps, to capitalize on current competitive advantages and to build advantages for the future.

AmCham Romania will continue to be a constructive partner for dialogue and to promote the vision and recommendations of the business community it represents in order to contribute to adopting the most appropriate public policies and measures for Romania's well-being.
