The Covid 19 pandemic is affecting, these days, all of us, in different ways. But, while most of us must face the consequences of isolation in our own homes, in Romania poor people have to deal with the struggle of surviving.
Before the Covid 19 pandemic, in 2019, United Way Romania helped 12,979 vulnerable people: children, youth, families and seniors. Today, when the pandemic shuts down cities, countries and even continents, its beneficiaries await help, for survival.
This pandemic is more than a health crisis, it is an economic one. Across industries, sales are plummeting as people begin social distancing. Among the most vulnerable are the hourly workers with little to no savings, who are already losing critical income. As the economic impacts spread, many will likely lose their jobs.
And as schools closed, children who receive free lunch are in danger of going hungry. Others will be left home alone as their parents continue to have to work. The most vulnerable category are the seniors, who now have to be even more isolated, alone, unable to get food and medicines.
But there are great news from United Way Romania’s partners. Profi, Dino FC and Carrefour have already donated products and money to support United Way Romania’s vulnerable beneficiaries, and the foundation thanks them for all the effort. More help is awaited.
