Highlights from the Second Edition of the AmCham CEO Forum in 2019

by AmCham Romania

On May 31 we were pleased to welcome C-level executives in the AmCham community for a very well attended second edition of the AmCham CEO Forum in 2019.

Insightful presentations from our key note speakers Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mr. Mugur Isărescu and HE Hans Klemm, U.S. Ambassador to Romania and top level business networking were the main the main benefits for participating members.

In the opening remarks, AmCham Romania President Ionuț Simion, referred to the expectations that the business community has following the May 26 EU Elections: “As members of the business community and Romanians we are glad to acknowledge today the choice of the Romanian people to support our country’s European commitment by sending a strong signal to the political class regarding the values and responsibility that are expected from them. The business climate is directly impacted by all decisions in the political realm, and as we move on we hope to see an improved, transparent and efficient public –private dialogue and consultations before adopting new legislation. We do not expect overnight miracles, yet we expect visionary public policies, reforms and concrete measures that will hopefully reverse the effects of pieces of legislation that resulted in decisions of long time investors to exit Romania.”

HE Ambassador Klemm emphasized the pillars of the U.S. foreign policy in addressing threats, respectively promoting security, democracy, freedom, the rule of law and prosperity.

Governor Isărescu’s presentation focused Romania: Post-crisis performance and current challenges was a plea for measures and policies that will avoid at costs reaching in a similar situation as before the previous economic crisis, by seeking growth, yet focusing on stability, keeping the budgetary deficit under control and finding a solution to the labor market dilemma that Romania is currently facing.

He pleaded for a festina lente type of approach or run the convergence path like a marathon, not like a sprinter along with the need for a long term vision for Romania.
