The AmCham Labor Committee held and online meeting today with Mr. Cosmin Boiangiu, Executive Director of the European Labor Authority (ELA). Mr. Boiangiu shared with us the ELA’s core mission, current state of operability – given the young age of the Agency - and clarified the organization’s strong focus on the coherent and uniform application of labor legislation across the 27 EU member states. Furthermore, the ELA will work on fostering an efficient and fair labor mobility scheme and the consistent cooperation of member states in key areas such as joint and concerted labor inspections or alignment of social security systems.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Authority is involved in performing risk analysis and evaluating the impact of the crisis on the labor market in the EU member states.
We identified the topic of digitalization of labor relations as a matter of common concern, and Mr. Boiangiu highlighted that the ELA aims to motivate member states to implement the digital transformation in the labor market.
AmCham put forward its expertise to support the mission of the ELA when it comes to tackling the challenges and opportunities facing the labor market at the national and EU level, while Mr. Boiangiu expressed its openness for having a close dialogue with the business environment.
