AmCham Advocacy Flash: Highlights of Recent Initiatives - June 2021

On June 8th AmCham was pleased to welcome Minister of Health Ioana Mihaila and State Secretary Andra Migiu for an online meeting with our Health Committee. AmCham members raised topics related to the opportunities entailed by the Recovery and Resilience Funds to finance much-needed investments in the healthcare system, improving performance through digitalization, prevention policies and cancer control measures and shaping the legal framework to support the reform of the healthcare system and alignment with EU standards. We stand ready and eager to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health and all authorities to shape an efficient and patient-centred health system in Romania.


On June 7th, the AmCham Capital Markets and Financial Services Committee organized, in collaboration with Junior Achievement a webinar aimed at informing students on start-ups and the financing methods currently available and soon to be available.


 

On June 4th, the AmCham Education TF met Senator Silvia Dinică for a discussion on the legislative changes needed to improve the quality of education and life-long learning in Romania.


On June 2, the AmCham Environment Committee met State Counsellor László Borbély - Department of Sustainable Development - Government of Romania who informed participants that a draft Circular Economy Strategy is to be launched in public consultation soon and welcomed the strong component dedicated to sustainability in the PNRR and 2021 - 2027 Operational Programs. State Counsellor Borbély also shared Romania’s priorities in the area of sustainability: emission reduction, finalisation of the Energy - Climate Integrated Strategy, energy efficiency for buildings with a set of concrete actions beyond enveloping.  We were pleased to identify a proper alignment with AmCham priorities and recommendations as formulated in Priorities for Romania 2021-2024 and are keen to pursue them in cooperation with the Department of Sustainable Development and authorities at large.

On June 9 the AmCham Digital Economy Committee engaged in a discussion with the Ministry of Internal Affairs/DEPABD re. eID card.


On June 9 the AmCham Competition and State-Aid Committee had a meeting with Alis Barbulescu, General Director, Competition Council re: State Aid future intensities.


On June 15 the AmCham Digital Economy Committee had a meeting with the Ministry of Justice re. digitalization of justice.


On June 10 AmCham released an analysis on Romania's challenges and opportunities in the context of the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience. While reiterating our belief that this mechanism offers Romania a unique opportunity to recover the major gaps accumulated in strategic areas, AmCham called for coherent reforms and investments that are critical for NRPP to produce the expected systemic impact.


On June 16 AmCham organized an in-person meeting with the President of ANAF, Mirela Călugăreanu focused on the digitalization of the fiscal administration. A brief event report is available here.
