This confidence translates into a willingness to consider bigger opportunities. The board needs to understand the risk universe and integrate risk assessment as a core part of future strategic planning: effective risk management leads to increased confidence, better decision making and sustainable growth. High performers aim to establish an enterprise-wide view of risk across their entire operations, quantify and manage the key risks related to the business and produce relevant analysis to support major business decisions. Every strategic decision is reviewed against their “risk radar” so that risks are identified early and the company can make changes or fully prepare for any consequences.
